Coventions of an Opening Sequence

Conventions of an opening sequence
  • Production company and logo - When the movie starts, the production companies' names appear to show who help to make the film possible
  • Film crew and cast credits - E.g. the cameramen, director, producer, cast, etc.
  • Identify the main characters - Who's involved in the movie
  • Establishing shot of setting - Tells the audience where the film is set
  • Genre - Straight away the audience should be able to tell what type of film it is. This will get the audience hooked.
  • Titles - It is important to show the film title so the audience can know what is film could be about. Also, It can cut off any scene that has happened before building suspense because the audience will want to know what will happen next
  • Music - Usually, the music is important. For example, if someone is being chased down the street, the music would be intense and may gradually get louder. Without music, the audience might be a bit clueless as to what the genre of the film might be. Not all horror films have to start off with someone dying.

Incommunicado (rough cut)

For our shoot, we made a rough cut of our video on how our video will roughly look. We thought about what the audience would like to see by looking at our questionnaires we did and applying some of the feedback to our rough cut.

Filming

All of our filming was done in one day but took several hours to film. In my opinion, when it came to filming, I don't think we planned out how the day was going to go which meant it took longer than I thought it would. We didn't check weather conditions before hand which meant we filmed some of our shots in the rain. That's something we need to check for the next time we decide to film

Music/Sound

The piece of music running throughout our piece is the main theme from 'The Exorcist'. When it comes to making our own music, we would like to create a piece similar to this so that the audience are on the edge of their seats and would want to see more when our opening comes to an end. We also used sound effects in our opening too.

Camera Angles

Our animatic helped us a lot when it came to our filming. We used almost all of our angles that we used in our animatic, in our real shoot. We used a range of shots like 'over the shoulder shots', 'POV shots' and 'close up shots'.
